The Homemade Fruit-Filled Poptarts of Your Dreams!
You asked for it, and here it is!
Jenna's homemade, quick and easy, fruit filled pocket pastry - also known as poptarts!
You really won't believe how easy this is. I mean it. I've made a couple batches in the past and this most recent one was my absolute best yet. I've posted about it a hand-full of times on my socials, but now you're getting the full sha-bang, live and in color!
Here's what you'll need:
- ready-to-bake pie crusts (usually $4 or $5 from the grocery store)
- jam or jelly (we chose 3 from Milk & Eggs by Coldwater Canyon Mango, Blueberry, and Pomegranate )
- scraper or straight edge
- 1 egg to make eggwash
A few tips before you get started: You will probably end up with odd-shaped extra pieces of the raw crust since they come in a circular shape. Feel free to roll those out (ball it all-together) and make more cutouts! Also, you'll want to keep the size of your pastries pretty small and not overly full in order to get the best bake. I used a tea packet for size reference which was immensely helpful in keeping the sizes small and consistent. Reference the slides below before you get baking, just to make sure you're preheating your oven while prepping and have all the goodies necessary to a smooth prep!
Did you love this recipe? We did and we're sure to give it another whirl very soon, probably with new jams and fresh produce from Milk & Eggs! The mango jam was our absolute favorite, but the blueberry was a close second as it was slightly bitter, still pretty sweet and chunkier in texture! We really love buying goods from Coldwater Canyon, a local company we discovered through Milk & Eggs.
What's your favorite kind of filling? What should we try next?
