Healthy Hair Habits
A week or so ago, I did an Instagram Live to chat with some of you and hear a little bit about what YOU guys want to hear about next!
The most common responses were...
This post is going to cover your first and second requests, all in one!
I wish I had a nickle for every time someone said to me...
"I wish my hair would hold colors like that but I'd have to re-dye it ALL THE TIME"
"I wish my hair would be that healthy when I colored it, but it always gets so dry and fried."
or my favorite...
"I bet you have to touch up that color every couple weeks, right?"
No, my hair doesn't "hold color better" than anyone else's hair.
No, my hair is NOT unhealthy or fried by any means AND I'm going to share with you how that's possible.
And NOPE! I go visit Kristina, my stylist, every 3 months on average.
I love disproving all these myths and assumptions that come along with having colorful, ever-changing hair! Anyone can enjoy have a vibrant mane, or even going with more neutral colors, while maintaining healthy, shiny, gorgeous hair!
Here's how I do it:
My number 1 not-so-secret secret is DRY SHAMPOO! You absolutely cannot and should not wash your hair every day, or even every other day. It's unhealthy to strip your scalp of its natural oils. Washing too often dries out your scalp and leads to very dry hair, among other issues. There are tons of Dry Shampoos out there but my favorite and outrageously affordable pick is this bad boy by Dove! I love the way it almost smells like fresh clean laundry! No one knows you're on your 3rd day of not-washing because not only does this dry shampoo neutralize any greasy or oil appearance, but it gives you a boost of volume and freshness! There's no reason to stress on having to grab yourself another product because it saves water, shampoo/condition and only costs $2.99 at Grocery Outlet! Normally I see it other places for $4-5. The deal was so good at Grocery Outlet that I snatched up an extra one for my best friend, too!
Next up is my HEAT PROTECTANT! This Tresemmé GET SLEEK Blow Dry Balm is a conditioning formula that acts as a heat protectant to all that heat styling we all love to do, while also adding shine and smoothness. I love the way it feels, smells and keeps my hair feeling oh-so-healthy! Heat styling can reaaaaaally damage your mop. Ps - I picked it up for only $3.99!!!
Regardless of what color your hair is, to keep it healthy you must moisturize! This is my favorite DEEP CONDITIONER the grocery store can provide! I've been using Aussie's 3-Minute Miracle for yeaaaaarrrs and always come right back to it. Your hair will thank you and you'll be smelling incredible for days! You can thank me later.
Another amazing hair product I live by: SHINE SPRAY! Don't fear oils, you guys. There are a great number of them that can truly benefit your hair and skin. Sometimes when you use dry shampoo or other styling products, you hair can start looking less shiny and slightly dull. After I finish with my dry shampoo, I give my noggin a little spritz of this dry-oil shine spray by Herbal Essences and I look like I just walked out of the salon! Only $2.99 at Grocery Outlet - amazing!!
I snagged ALL of these haircare gems at Grocery Outlet in their beauty section! They carry some of my absolutely favorite products for DOLLARS cheaper than anywhere else! Trust me - I've totally compared prices and it's very worth it to make a trip to Grocery Outlet the next time you're due for a grocery run.
While I was there, I also swooped up some Neutrogena Dry-Touch SPF 30 sunscreen (as I always keep sunscreen with me), a Burts Bee's Lipgloss in a gorgeous berry shade, and some deep cleaning nose strips!
Annnnd I couldn't handle how good some of these bargains were that I even grabbed a few extras for my bff, because why the heck not!
I hope you were able to benefit from this post! I'm sure you probably have more hair-care questions for Nick and I so go ahead and leave them in the comments below!
Thanks for reading!
