3 Popular Finger Foods With A Healthy Twist!

It's only been 3 days since the Super Bowl and I'm still glowing with pride over my tasty creations I concocted for my gal pal's party! I could not believe how simple and delicious these creative concoctions were, but what you might not have expected is that I didn't just replicate these popular recipes - I actually changed each of them to keep them lighter, healthier and more enjoyable for everyone!

You've all been waiting so patiently to find out what the heck I made, so here it is!

Jalapeño Poppers & Loaded Potato Bites

"Football" Deviled Eggs w/ Chives

I found the initial recipe ideas on Pinterest, of course. Once I had decided upon the 3 dishes I was going to create for my friend's Super Bowl party, I had started to delve a bit further into the recipes and cringed a few times as I read the ingredients.

My diet has been most vegan for a little while now, and although I was definitely going to enjoy the end result of my culinary projects, I thought there were some positive changes that could be made. Here's what I did...

I created a list of all the of necessary ingredients, produce and extras I'd need for all 3 plates, and started to create an order on Milk & Eggs. On their site, they have a lot of "diet specific" options, like vegan, Whole 30, paleo, etc. For the items like mayonnaise, butter, sour cream, and cream cheese, they have a variety of options, including some dairy-free substitutes. I found some of these recipe needs to be obvious candidates for healthier substitutes, so I ordered those instead. I placed my order and scheduled it to arrive on the Friday before Super Bowl Sunday.

Here's what I swapped out.

Mayonnaise with Avocado Oil instead of regular mayo.

Ghee Butter and Jeweled Yams instead of regular butter and potatoes.

Clover Organic Sour Cream instead of regular sour cream.

Locally made Dill Kosher Pickles from Coldwater Canyon , chopped into small cubes instead of store bought relish.

All of the ingredients I used were fresh produce (if available) or freshly packaged ordered from Milk & Eggs in order to guarantee the best quality and most nutrients. Can you believe I made all 3 of these at once, by myself! I was entirely solo in my cooking mission and definitely don't consider myself a skilled cook so this was slightly intimidating at first. It actually ended up being really simple and fun to prepare.

The end result was a complete success, and my party contributions were a hit!

I can't take credit for coming up with these recipes entirely, as like I said, they're from Pinterest but what I want to emphasize is how simple it was to swap out unhealthy ingredients for healthier ones. It's just one more reason why we love shopping via Milk & Eggs; they offer so many fantastic options for people who have special diets, or are just looking to make positive changes in their diet, one step at a time.

Have you tried any of these alternative cooking substitutes? Would you?
